SPECIAL TO THE NEWS-SUN In the Best Buddies tent at the conclusion of the Chicago Marathon are Shanna Piggott with her parents, Paul and RoJeane Anderson, who live in Wisconsin. |
Grayslake Central High science teacher Shanna Piggott competed in the Chicago Marathon last weekend and was the 214th female to finish.
Her time of 3 hours and 15 minutes qualified her to run in the Boston Marathon next April.
Piggott did not run just for herself.
Many of her fellow teachers and administrators donated to help her reach her fund-raising goal.
"The Chicago Marathon was my first, of hopefully many, and it exceeded all of my expectations. There were so many runners (around 35,000 total), volunteers and fans that were there for the race. It was amazing," she said. "There are several people from the Grayslake Running Club that qualified for Boston and are planning to run. I can't wait to participate in an event with so much history and tradition." |
